Hip Dysplasia can occur in adolescents & adults. It might be a new diagnosis, or a diagnosis from residual infant Hip Dysplasia #AdultHipDysplasia


Hip Dysplasia is a common condition. The exact prevalance is unknown, but it is estimated at between 0.5 & 5% of the population. That's at least 1 in every 200 #AdultHipDysplasia


Hip Dysplasia means that the hip socket is too shallow or the wrong shape for the ball of the joint.  If it is not treated it can lead to hip arthritis at a much earlier age than normal #AdultHipDysplasia


#AdultHipDysplasia can often be treated, to prevent the early onset of osteoarthritis and early hip replacements, but it needs to be diagnosed early


Adults with Hip Dysplasia often have difficulty gaining an accurate diagnosis. One study found it took an average of 5 years to find out what was wrong #AdultHipDysplasia



The centre-edge (CE) angle is a measurement of how deep a hip socket is.  Most hips have a CE angle of 25° or more.  In #AdultHipDysplasia the CE angle is less than 25°



Adult & adolescent Hip Dysplasia is on a spectrum, but there is currently a lack of consensus amongst medical professionals on what counts as "mild," "moderate" or "severe" #AdultHipDysplasia


Hip Dysplasia is often genetic and can run in families #AdultHipDysplasia
